About

Jennifer K. Smith Chong and Dennis K. Chong

In England, Jennifer professionally rose from training as a State Registered Nurse, SRN to being a senior obstetric ward sister. She then studied at Leeds University and became a Public Health Nurse.

When she immigrated she sat her corresponding examinations and became the public health nurse for Perth County, Ontario in 1975.

Dennis graduated in Medicine from Leeds Medical School, England. When Dennis immigrated to Canada he got his LMCC and was in General Medical Practice in Milverton from 1972 to 1979.

In 1974, Dennis attended his first basic workshop on Hypnosis given by the Ontario Society of Clinical Hypnosis, OSCH. He was utterly charmed by what he learnt. However, he was sure that, as a subject, it was not sufficiently tight on its logical platform or sufficiently rigourous on scientific foundations.

Then in 1976, OSCH invited John Grinder and Richard Bandler, the co-founders of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, NLP, to come to Toronto to teach at its Spring Workshop. From it, was Dennis’ epiphany that here, somewhere in NLP was the logical basis and scientific foundation of Hypnosis. For this, except for two or three out-of-print books, he read and studied the entire Bibliography of the Structure of Magic. The Structure of Magic was the core foundation work of NLP. From this reading Dennis extended his reading to the bibliography of bibliography of the Structure of Magic. In this process he co-shared what he was learning with Jennifer who also found the books interesting.

From 1976, they searched the world for the best teachers in the fields of Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy so that they could read their work and study from them. Then Dennis went to learn from Milton H. Erickson, M.D. of Phoenix Arizona who was the leading Hypnotherapist of his time. Then in 1980, Jennifer went to Santa Cruz University where she did her NLP studies under John Grinder, Richard Bandler, Leslie Cameron Bandler, Judith de Lozier and their first generation of NLP trainers. On this basis, Dennis and Jennifer came to Oakville, Ontario in 1979 and started their conjoint practice in Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy. They have been in practice together for 33 years.

Significantly, their professional practice became their research laboratory into the field of human Applied Philosophy, Linguistics, Semantics, Ontology, Epistemology, Hypnotism and Psychotherapy. From their exploration and research they have found an incredible scan of discoveries. However, initially they took a very matter-of-fact functional attitude towards these discoveries; and as such, neither they did think of much they found other that they were useful things nor did they publicize their findings other than to bring them up as a teaching topic.

It was by a slow process from 1979 to 1994 for them to realize the significance and value of what they had found by their research. It was in 1994 that they found their commitment to share with their confreres what they had found. The result was that in 1994 they finally wrote their first article entitled Ontology, Neuro-Linguistic Programming & Neuro-Semantic Programming. It was published in the Argentine journal de Sapos a Principes. There were certain other critical and famed contributors to the issue of this journal. Thus, it included Humberto Maturana and Francisco, the discoverers of the Santiago Theory.

Two years later, in 1996, finally for the first time they entered the arena of professional annual conferences to present their material. This was at the 10th World Psychiatric Congress in Madrid. Here at this conference they present and then debate and defend their positions against amongst others the Professor of Psychiatry of the University of Madrid and the Professor of Psychiatry of the University of Santiago, Chile.

To do the sharing they also had the horrendous task of backtracking and having to remember what they had actually found. They ended with two lists of the things they discovered. They published both these list in their website in appropriately entitled articles - A List of Creative Acts, Part I & II, a.k.a. Forgetting and then to Recall Things:

They are now in the process of doing their 3rd list of discoveries.

They resurrected their web site, http://www.neuro-semanticprogramming.com/, NSP.com, in 2009. Their web site from the geographical stats is now taking over half a million hits per year. From the quarterly stats some 96% of visitors visit their ARTICLES folder. In this ARTICLES folder, C-Jade Publications Inc has posted all that the Chong’s published papers in various journals in the English speaking world articles from 1994 right up to 2010/04 – 06. Then, C-Jade Publications decided to publish all their unpublished articles in NSP.com from 2010/07 – 09. We are now in 2012 and the Chongs still have a significant backlog of unpublished papers.

In sharing with their confreres what they have found in real time they presented and debated their findings and positions not only at the World Psychiatric Congress in Madrid but also at other similar high events in America, Canada, Belgium, Germany, England, Australia, Germany, Italy, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia. They have also presented in Universities in Ontario, Germany, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

They have two daughters, Eleanor Evans, BA, LLB, MBA and Astrid Fearn, BSc, ND, MB, BS. The former is married to Michael Evans and the latter to Christopher Fearn. Eleanor and Michael have two sons, Charles and Henry. For Dennis and Jennifer their grandsons are today the precious joys of their lives.

This is what has been said of them:
